This event has attracted large numbers of delegates in recent years to hear from world experts in robotic-assisted surgery, and has proved one of the most highly-rated parts of the Clinical Urology Program. The rapid growth in installation and procedure numbers since 2011 has led to a doubling in the number of systems available and a huge increase in the number of urologists transitioning to robotic-assisted surgery which is now the dominant approach to radical prostatectomy in Australia.

Urologists as all levels from trainee to experienced robotic surgeon will benefit from this interactive and video-based da Vinci Prostatectomy Masterclass where you will hear from world leaders in robotic surgery.

This year we have assembled a hugely-experienced Faculty of robotic surgeons to deliver an outstanding program for those interested in robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy using the da Vinci© surgical system.

Our International Faculty includes:

 Dr. Brian Chapin, Assistant Professor

Department of Urology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, United States

Dr Chapin provides complete surgical care for men and women diagnosed with urologic malignancies. He performs open surgery and minimally invasive/robotic surgery, for patients with prostate, kidney, bladder and testis cancers. His major clinical focus is on the treatment of high risk- localized, locally advanced and metastatic prostate cancers. Dr. Chapin is involved with the basic science/translational research program at M.D Anderson, which is attempting to identify the immunologic changes that occur with surgical and systemic therapy treatments in advanced prostate cancer and how these changes may be exploited with use of newer immune modulating therapies. Using a comprehensive multimodality approach to this disease, Dr. Chapin’s goal is to ease suffering and prolong survival in men with advanced prostate cancer.

Mr Benjamin J Challacombe

Guy’s and St Thomas Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, King’s College London

Ben is a consultant urological surgeon and honorary senior lecturer with a special interest in robotic surgery and minimally invasive prostate cancer treatments. Ben is associate editor of the BJUI, with over 140 peer-reviewed publications and 20 book chapters on minimally invasive and robotic urological techniques. He has performed over 400 robotic radical prostatectomies, 160 robotic partial nephrectomies and also performs dynamic prostate brachytherapy and holmium laser prostatectomy (HoLEP) within the Guy’s Urology Centre. His current research interests are in robotic surgery training, trans-perineal template biopsy techniques, active surveillance of low risk prostate cancer, sentinel lymph node techniques and haptic probe development in robotic surgery.

Highlights include:

  • Full-length “as live” da Vinci© radical prostatectomy and extended PLND
  • Advanced techniques to preserve functional outcomes
  • Technical nuances: Xi robot; Firefly; Single-port
  • High risk prostate cancer – surgical strategies using the robot
  • Video-based tutorials of difficult cases

Please join us for this very popular event and improve your knowledge of robotic radical prostatectomy in the company of some of the world’s most experienced robotic surgeons.
